Web Accessibility

From Simon Harper

My accessibility research is focused on 2 main tracks: (1) Transcoding; and, (2) accessibility evaluation.

Transcoding

Web accessibility transcoding is a process that we use to make digital content accessible to all users, especially those with disabilities. This process involves transforming web content into formats that can be easily consumed by individuals who rely on assistive technologies. By addressing the needs of users with visual impairments, cognitive disabilities, or other challenges, our work in web accessibility transcoding helps create an inclusive online environment.

When we approach web accessibility transcoding, we focus on content transformation. This includes reformatting text, images, and multimedia elements into alternative formats that improve usability. For example, we may convert written content into audio formats for users who are blind or visually impaired, or provide captions and transcripts for video content to assist those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our goal is to ensure that all users can access the information they need without barriers.
